A Maintained Furnace is a Happy Furnace

Is your wife the only one having hot flashes in your house this winter while the rest of your family is bundled up in parkas, hats and gloves for movie night?  Then it might be time to have your furnace serviced.  The freezing cold temperatures we’ve had lately have me thinking about the importance of a working furnace and how Practical Systems can help you.  Did you know that your furnace needs regular maintenance throughout the year?  There are certain things that should be done in order to ensure an even temperature in your home:

  • Clean or replace filters once a month
  • Ensure the belt is in good condition before the heating season
  • Make sure the bearings in the fan are oiled and tight
  • Check to make sure the condensation line is obstruction free
  • Make sure the forced air exhaust is clear
  • Check carbon monoxide levels for your safety

If you’re unsure of how to do any or all of these things it’s important to have a professional help you.  If you’re not doing regular maintenance it’s only a matter of time until your furnace goes out.  When it breaks, and it will, even a few short hours in these sub zero temperatures can dramatically affect the comfort level in your home.  Imagine waking up on the day of the biggest meeting of your career and seeing your breath.  It makes it extra hard to get out of bed on these cold winter mornings.  So, unless your goal is to stay in a warm bed all day and cold air in the home is your way of convincing your wife to stay there with you– no judgment here if that’s your angle – then give Preferred Systems a call.  It’s much more efficient and cost effective to stay ahead of a broken furnace than to have to replace it.  Be sure to connect with me on LinkedIn and Twitter and ‘like’ my page on Facebook to receive helpful hints all winter long on how to keep your home running smoothly all year long.
